 | Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival SAN BERNARDINO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. “Celebrate Broadway”: John Sawoski plays piano for The “Phantom” as he returns to Redlands! Redlands native Brad Little, who played the title role in Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, joins his wife and singing partner Barbara McCulloh to perform some of the most popular show tunes from musical theatre. Frank Paul Fetta, conductor. In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Lincoln Shrine, the concert will be preceded by a special Community Sing featuring songs from the 1860s. | | | |  | Sunday, July 1 at 8 pm - John Sawoski will perform with the Riverside County Philharmonic Orchestra's annual Concert for Heroes, Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518. Free Admission This popular summer event honors those who serve and who have served their country in times of war. The Riverside National Cemetery is now the standard for all national cemeteries. It is the only national cemetery (our of more than 120) to have ever hosted a symphonic concert. Because of the location of the concert, there is no charge. Dress comfortably for an evening of great music in an extraordinary setting. | May 29 (Tuesday) - Flute Colors - A Recital of 19th and 20th music for Flute and Piano at Santa Monica College Concert Hall, with Peter Sheridan John Sawoski played piano with Peter Sheridan playing several flutes, including alto and bass flute, in a performance of 19th-20th century music, including a special arrangement by John Sawoski of a Chopin variation. Sawoski and Sheridan plan to record the pieces in this recital, along with others, on an album in June. Santa Monica College Concert Hall |
May 20th - John Sawoski conducts Capistrano Valley Symphony Orchestra ConcertAs a substitute for Carlo Spiga, John Sawoski conducted an evening concert with the Capistrano Valley Symphony, which included Vladimir Polimatidi (concertmaster), Julie Metz (asst.concertmaster), Johana Krejci, Araksia Nazlikian, Mira Khomik, Kathleen Mangusing, Valerie Geller, Bridget Bow, Yumi Yoshinaga, Destiny Ankers, Karen Lak, John Acosta, Karen Deaner, Tom Pedrini, Mary Palchak, Laura Recendez, Joe and Laura Stone, Michele B., Steve Durnin, Lisa Cherry, Rick Baptist, George K., Steve Charpie, Mike Hoffman, Rocco Quaranta, Curt Berg, Alan Steinberger, Carl Rigoli, Michael R., Gregg Gilboe, and others. The evening of music from the theatre, hosted by John Santana, featured guest vocalists from California Conservatory for the Arts. Photos to follow. The concert took place in the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano courtyard. John Sawoski will also perform in several other concerts this season.  May 12 (Saturday) - John Sawoski plays keyboards for Feinstein, Gifford, and the Fifth Dimension John Sawoski played keyboards (along with pianist/musical director Steven Cahill, drummer Albie Berk, bassist Kirk Smith, trumpeter Rick Baptist, and others), at a private event featuring vocalists Michael Feinstein, Cathy Lee Gifford, the 5th Dimension (Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo), and Lauren Nelson (Miss America 2007), as well as the Debbie Allen dancers (pictured above left with John Sawoski behind the keyboard to the lower left of the photograph). The Viewpoint School fundraiser, which raised $1,000,000 that evening, was hosted by Brad Garrett and Ray Romano (pictured left). Also appearing on stage were Doris Roberts, HRH Prince Edward Earl of Wessex, Kathy Ireland, Rick Schroder, Sean Hayes, Jean Smart, and others. May 9 - Sam Arlen & The Three Crooners  John Sawoski played synth brass keyboards with tenor saxophonist Sam Arlen (son of legendary composer Harold Arlen) and George Bugatti's "Three Crooners" at a special private event in Universal City, CA. The show featured all music by Harold Arlen, including his greatest hits "Over the Rainbow," "Stormy Weather," "Blues in the Night," "That Old Black Magic," "I've Got The World On A String," and many more. The show also featured jazz vocalist Barbara Morrison, an onscreen tribute by Tony Bennett, and personal home movie and photos of Harold Arlen. The band, contracted by Chris Tedesco, also included drummer Tom Walsh, string keyboardist Curtis Brengle, percussionist Marie Matson, bassist Jim De Julio, guitarist Gary Solt, and pianist/arranger/musical director Steve Rawlins. |
